Celebrate Summer Solstice

Celebrate Summer Solstice

Harness the Vibrant Energy of Summer and Live in full color.

With the arrival of the summer solstice, we mark the longest day of the year. Litha, the midsummer celebration, also captures a turning point in the nature of our lives.  With these seasonal cues, it’s the perfect time to recalibrate to your own unique values and personal priorities. In a process of emotional evolution, to realign with your truest wishes, desires, and goals. Take a breath to reimagine, ask yourself what do you really want next?  For many, summer calendars are already full to the brim. But this is about more than where you will travel and what you need to accomplish. This is about how you want to feel in these moments. It is this bigger vision of how you wish your living to be. It is how you want to feel as you move through the world.

Your surroundings are ready to rekindle child-like wonderment and awe in simple summer joys. It’s in the nightly dancing of the fireflies, the fantastic flutter of the hummingbird wings, and the rhythmic crash of waves on the beach. The luscious taste of ripe peaches, the sweet drip of melting popsicles, and the crackling warmth of a bonfire. These pure pleasures are the precious gems of summertime, inviting us to step into the light with renewed vitality and connection.

Unlock the Pure Pleasures of Summertime Joys.

Schedule fun: Remind yourself of the value of free time. Just like kids who take a break at summer camp to explore new hobbies and activities, dedicate blocks of time to your playful capacity. Go on a walk and just wander. Sit under a tree and daydream. Make a date for adventure. Plan a day trip somewhere. Go to a museum you love to visit. Set random alarms in your phone for a 10-minute dance party throughout the week, if you have to. Or listen to a funny podcast. Something. Anything that makes you fall into a full belly laugh.

Relax routines: Evaluate your priorities and relax your routines. As we break intense rigidity, we are gifted freedom and flow. Make space for spontaneity, a magnetic playfulness that draws life to us. Root courageously into self trust to boldly let go of control. You can navigate life as it comes. At any given moment, you already intuitively know what to do. Follow your heart.

Illuminate your heart: In eastern traditions, the heart’s role is divided into both the physical and subtle realms. It is the seat of consciousness, the home of compassion, the harbor of emotions. According to Ayurveda, the Pitta dosha dominates during summer, embodying the element of fire with its illuminating and burning energy. Stop and take inventory of what you are carrying in your heart. Is there something ready to be burned through? Banish stress and abandon worry, heavy emotional burdens can have an impact on your physical and mental well-being. Strongly stoke the fire within for an emotional clearing.

Intentional creativity: Blossom, activate, be drawn into your fullness. In summer, there is a surge of manifestation and a swell of creativity. We are sparked to take action, to move, to go, to do. Attend to your own prosperity and step further into a greater expansion of your inherent creative nature. Be motivated to explore and engage. Paint something, grow something, cook something…choose a medium for self-expression. Animate your dharma. Amplify your calling.

Claim your joy: Sometimes we need to dig into the oddly difficult question of what brings us joy.  We may have a vague notion and recognize it in fleeting moments, as we taste our favorite ice cream or catch a gentle breeze. But what about intentional joy? Practicing intentional joy is one way to get out of our head and back into our heart. In this deeper connection to all of life, it feeds the greater good. Joy initiates our mending as we recognize this golden thread of the human fabric. Ensure it is part of your every day. Fold it into your life because it is your divine right. Because it keeps your nervous system in check. Not least of all, because you deserve it. Write out a joy list and reference it often.

Take a digital vacation: Stop mindlessly scrolling reels-- looking to others for inspiration, creativity, and entertainment. Stop watching, start being. Instead of liking what everybody else does, like what you’re doing. Instead of commenting on everyone else’s ideas, grab a journal and get clear on your own thoughts. Generate your own understanding of the world around you. Empower young ones to do the same. We each offer our own unique perspective, sometimes we have to quiet the noise to hear our own voice.

Replenish: While the spring months focus more on detoxification, summer is a season of replenishment. Look to locally sourced produce to nourish your body with essential vitamins and minerals that may be depleted. Stay hydrated from the inside out by drinking plenty of water and replenishing electrolytes (hello, coconut water!). Shift your self-care focus to your skin and devote time to beauty rituals that make you glow. Summer is a time to revitalize your desires and replenish your heart. Focus on the things that restore you spiritually and emotionally. Self fill.

As we reflect nature it’s time to acknowledge our own flourishing and thriving. A wild celebration of successes and wins. Let your energy and enthusiasm be as intoxicating as summer blooms. Reprioritize in the direction of your dreams. Rejoice and enjoy. Resuscitate, respiration and inspiration share the same root word…so ask yourself, what inspires you to breathe? Engage in experiences that let you feel alive and participate wholeheartedly in potent creative energy. Live in full color. Catch those vibrant summer vibes.
